New On DVD: March 9, 2010

Two recent Oscar-nominated films land on DVD and Blu-ray this week.

My pick over at CityNews.ca is Jason Reitman's Up in the Air. Starring George Clooney and Vera Farmiga, Up in the Air is a very relevant film that looks at the state of our economy in a humorous tone. It was my top pick of 2009 and is the only film I've given five out of five to. It looks great on Blu-ray as well. The other Oscar nominee being released is Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire. Although it's a bit of a downer, it is a very important film that needs to be watched.

Fanning and Stewart Might Not Be Coming to Toronto After All

Just received word from E1 Entertainment that Dakota Fanning and Kristen Stewart might not be able to make it to Toronto for the premiere of The Runaways on Sunday, March 14. In an earlier post I confirmed the two were scheduled to attend the event at the Isabel Bader Theatre but now it looks like director Floria Sigismondi could be walking the red carpet alone.

Check back for updates on this story as it develops.

The Runaways opens in Toronto on March 19.

TRAILER: Iron Man 2 (Trailer 2)

After the Oscars last night Robert Downey Jr. made an appearance on a special edition of Jimmy Kimmel Live! and brought with him the latest trailer for Iron Man 2 (after the jump). The first trailer was enough to sell me on Mickey Rourke as Whiplash and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, but this longer version absolutely blew me away and solidified them in their roles to me. The film is also looking to be twice as intense and cool as the first Iron Man.

VIDEO FEATURE: 'Remember Me' Featurette

Remember Me is a romantic drama starring Twilight's Robert Pattinson as Tyler -- an emotionally charged college student with a chip on his shoulder. He drinks too much, smokes too much, has issues with his father (Pierce Brosnan), and has never fully recovered from his brother's death. When he meets Ally (Emilie de Ravin of Lost fame) his outlook on life begins to change. She's a fellow student at his school who has issues with her overprotective police detective father (Chris Cooper) and, similar to Tyler, she has never heeled from the loss of her murdered mother.

The Hurt Locker also took home Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.

2010 Oscar Party Planner

Tonight's the night where the Hollywood elite walk the red carpet at the Kodak Theater and are honoured for their work in film at the 82nd Annual Academy Awards ceremony (or the Oscars as we've become accustomed to calling them). What should you serve to eat and drink? Where can you print a ballot to keep track at home? Are there any games to play when the show gets boring? We've got everything you need to enjoy the lengthy awards courtesy of the Academy Awards.

General Lee For Auction in Toronto

Ever since I was a child I've wanted to own a 1968 Dodge Charger just like the one Bo and Luke Duke drove in the hit television show The Dukes of Hazzard. And now I have a chance to get an actual "General Lee" (as the car was called in the show) for the first time in Toronto.

The annual spring Classic Car Auction of Toronto will feature one of the cars that was used in the 2005 movie adaptation of The Dukes of Hazzard starring Johnny Knoxville, Seann William Scott, Jessica Simpson, and Burt Reynolds. According to the press release this is the only car to "survive three separate jumps during filming and one of the few sold by the movie studio following production."
