'Shine of Rainbows' Director To Be Honoured With The Kodak New Century Award


Director and cinematographer Vic Sarin, whose latest film A Shine of Rainbows opens in Canada on April 9, is being honoured on March 27 in Toronto with the Kodak New Century Award. The annual award is presented to someone who has contributed to the art of cinematography in an outstanding manner. E1 Entertainment is pleased to announce that acclaimed cinematographer and director Vic Sarin has been chosen by his peers at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers to receive the Kodak New Century Award at the 2009 CSC Awards Celebration on March 27 in Toronto.

The prestigious Kodak New Century Award is presented annually for outstanding contribution to the art of cinematography. Vic’s long list of film and television credits and awards attest to the professional skills that have made him a leader among Canadian cinematographers.

In Vic’s most recent award-winning film, A Shine of Rainbows, which opens in major cities across Canada on APRIL 9, he has crafted an inspiring and uplifting tale, highlighted by wonderful performances from Aidan Quinn, Connie Nielsen and newcomer John Bell. Featuring Sarin's own outstanding cinematography capturing the panoramic beauty of the rugged Irish coast, this heart-warming film sensitively explores the bumpy path of a child's journey to self discovery.

A Canada-Ireland co-production, A Shine of Rainbows has been honoured with numerous awards to date: co-winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2009 Heartland Film Festival; winner of the Children’s Jury Award at the Chicago International Children’s Film Festival; first prize for best international feature film at the Sedona International Film Festival; and Best Canadian Feature Film at the Victoria Film Festival.

Vic Sarin was born in Kashmir. A passionate and diverse filmmaker, Vic’s memorable work has earned him world renown as one of Canada’s premier cinematographers for film and television, including the Emmy Award-winning documentary series Millennium: Tribal Wisdom and the Modern World (1992) and the films Bye Bye Blues (1989) and Margaret's Museum (1995). His credits as director and cinematographer include the Genie Award-winning Cold Comfort (1989), Trial at Fortitude Bay (1994), The Legend of Gatorface (1996), Sea People (1999) and Partition (2007).

With more than thirty years experience as a Director of Photography, Vic has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Kodak Lifetime Achievement Award for having created some of cinema’s most moving and memorable images. Vic will receive the Kodak New Century Award at the CSC Awards Celebration on March 27th in Toronto.
