MIFF 2010 Brings Independent Film to Mississauga

Remix-to-RioWhen I heard that Mississauga has a film festival geared towards Canadian independent filmmakers I was dumbfounded. Why hadn’t I heard of this before? Especially with a lineup that includes Peter Stebbings’s Defendor and Ravi Steve’s amazing documentary Remix-to-Rio (pictured above and trailer below).

Promoting themselves as being a “filmmaker-friendly event that champions Canadian talent,” the Mississauga Independent Film Festival (MIFF) will also screen The Beast of Bottomless Lake, Archon Defender, and Nara. There is also three short film programs and a series presenting web shows like Brian Hogg’s Rant Puppets and Bert McKinley’s The Human Project. All films will play at the CinéStarz theatre in Mississauga between July 7 and 11.

In a release sent out to press, festival founder Matt Campagna said, “This strictly-Canadian festival breeds the next generation of talent by showcasing their compelling stories in a supportive environment, while offering a forum to jumpstart their careers.”
