In the summer of 2009, during Toronto’s garbage strike, the full ensemble that makes up the band Broken Social Scene (including Feist, Emily Haines of Metric and Amy Milan of Stars) played a free show on Toronto’s Harbourfront. Legendary rock n’ roll director Bruce McDonald filmed it and Georgina Reilly (Pontypool) and Greg Calderone (Howie Do It) starred in a fictional love story based around it written by Canadian actor Don McKellar. The result is This Movie is Broken — the coolest movie about Toronto ever made and one of the greatest concert films from a Canadian band to ever grace the screen.
Criticize This! spoke with Reilly and Calderone about their involvement with the film, which is landing on DVD and Blu-ray September 28. Watch the interview below.
