The 2010-2011 season of Hot Docs’ monthly Doc Soup screening series kicks off tonight (October 6) in Toronto with the premiere of the award-winning film Sons of Perdition.
Directed by Jennilyn Merten and Tyler Measom, Sons of Perdition tells the story of three teenage boys who left the polygamist compound they were being raised in in Utah so they could escape the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). The shocking and often heartbreaking film follows the boys over the course of three years as they try to make it in mainstream America.
Sons of Perdition screens at the Bloor Cinema at 6:30 p.m. and 9:15 p.m with filmmakers Merten and Measom in attendance to introduce the film and do a Q&A after both screenings. Tickets are $12 at the theatre with a limited number of free tickets available to students (with proper student ID) for the 9:15 p.m. showing. The Bloor Cinema box office opens at 5:30 p.m.
Doc Soup, now in it’s 10th year, brings the best documentaries from around the world to the big screen in Toronto, Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. For more information on the Doc Soup series, visit hotdocs.ca/docsoup.
