Toy Story 3 (Blu-ray)
Criticize This! Pick of the Week – Andy (voice of John Morris) is getting ready to move away for college and in the process Buzz (voice of Tim Allen), Woody (voice of Tom Hanks), and the rest of his toys end up at a local daycare in the toddler room. In order to get back to Andy before he abandons them for good, the toys must escape Lotso the Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear (voice of Ned Beatty) and his army of twisted soldiers.
Toy Story 3 is an exciting adventure with a great story and beautiful animation. Watching it on Blu-ray is truly the only way to enjoy it at home, as the high-def picture and 7.1 DTS-HD sound mix are mind-blowing (if you’re a Pixar fan and haven’t yet upgraded to Blu-ray yet this is the release you need to do it for). Special features include the Pixar short Day & Night, an interactive game, multiple making-of featurettes, a roundtable with director Lee Unkrich, and much more. White Christmas (Blu-ray)
– Since serving for their country during WWII, Bob (Bing Crosby) and Phil (Danny Kaye) have become a popular song-and-dance act. When they meet fellow performers, and sisters, Betty (Rosemary Clooney) and Judy (Vera-Ellen), the two men follow them to Vermont for a Christmas performance. Loads of singing, dancing, romance, and comedy ensue, making White Christmas one of the most cherished Christmas movies ever made.
White Christmas comes to Blu-ray in a beautiful 1080p transfer with a remastered 5.1 DTS-HD sound mix (for purists the original mono mix is included as well). Special features include audio commentary with Rosemary Clooney, featurettes on Crosby and Kaye, a piece on Irvin Berlin (who wrote the best-selling single “White Christmas”), trailers, and more. Film **** Blu-ray **** (out of 5 stars).
