The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) announced their picks for the top 10 Canadian feature films of 2010, and the top 10 Canadian short films of 2010 on Tuesday night at an event at the TIFF Bell Lightbox.
The list of features varies widely, and includes the more mainstream movies Barney’s Version and Splice, the documentary Last Train Home, festival darling MODRA, Bruce McDonald’s Trigger, Deborah Chow’s The High Cost of Living, Denis Côté’s Curling, Xavier Dolan’s Les Amours imaginaires (Heartbeats), Catherine Martin’s Trois temps après la mort d’Anna (Mourning for Anna), and Denis Villeneuve’s Incendies — which is Canada’s official selection for the 2011 Oscars.
“For the past decade, Canada’s Top Ten has championed homegrown success, offering filmmakers a platform for recognition and a stage for trailblazing future film trends,” said Piers Handling, Director and CEO, TIFF. “We are proud to announce such a powerful and impressive list of features and short films.”
All the films selected will screen at the TIFF Bell Lightbox between January 20 and February 1, 2011. When available, the filmmakers will introduce the film and participate in a Q&A after the screening. Select films will play in other Canadian cities, including Vancouver’s Pacific Cinematheque and Ottawa’s Canadian Film Institute. To purchase tickets and for more information, visit tiff.net.
