‘Star Wars’ Coming to Blu-ray in September

Star Wars Blu-rayGet ready to hand over more money to George Lucas, folks. Official news arrived today from 20th Century Fox Home Video that Star Wars is coming to Blu-ray in September, and for the first time ever fans will be able to get all six “episodes” in the series in a nine-disc set.

Star Wars: The Complete Saga, priced at a MSRP of $179.99CDN, will come with over 30 hours of bonus materials, including never-before-seen deleted and alternate scenes. Star Wars: The Original Trilogy and Star Wars: The Prequel Trilogy, both three-disc sets, will be available for a MSRP of $89.99CDN each. All three sets are available for pre-order via online retailers now.

Fox Home Video has a great track record with Blu-ray re-releases (the Alien Anthology was mind-blowing) and I have faith that Lucas will monitor the high-def transfer of his babies to the highest standards. All of these elements could be what the Blu-ray format needs to push it into the homes of everyone who has been holding out on upgrading. But with no mention of the original theatrical cuts of the films (we can only assume these are the “Special Edition” releases from 1997) or digital copies being included, will the hardcore Star Wars fans bite? I think so, and I personally can’t wait to see how the films look and geek out to the series again.

What do you think? Will you be adding Star Wars to your Blu-ray collection? If so, which set will you get? If you don’t currently have a Blu-ray player will Star Wars push you to upgrade. Drop us a line in the comments below and let us know.
