Were you one of the handful of people to pick up Research in Motion’s new tablet PC, the BlackBerry PlayBook, when it hit shelves yesterday? If so, you might have noticed the fancy pre-installed app from the National Film Board of Canada.
The app gives PlayBook users the ability to stream 1,500 films from the NFB catalogue for free, including popular titles RIP! A Remix Manifesto, Madame Tutli-Putli, and The Cat Came Back. Most titles are also available to stream in high-def.
“We are thrilled to work with the NFB to bring their high-definition films to the BlackBerry PlayBook,” said Tyler Lessard, Vice President, Global Alliances & Developer Relations, Research In Motion. “The HD films are especially rich, high-quality projects that showcase the exceptional multimedia capabilities of the PlayBook platform.”
The app also sports a special section with entertaining and educational content for children.
Last summer the NFB released a similar app for the iPad and iPhone, and in March released one for the Android platform. For more information on all the NFB apps available, visit nfb.ca.
