I fondly remember my entire family venturing out to the drive-in every weekend when I was a kid. I got to see films like Superman and E.T., Raiders of the Lost Ark and Empire Strikes Back, plus a few movies I probably shouldn’t have seen, like Friday the 13th. There was something so special about sitting under the stars in my PJ’s and eating gobs of junk as a movie played on a big outdoor screen that the experience stayed with me my entire life. As I got older I continued to go to the drive-in with friends, some of which had never been before, and now I’m taking my own kids so they can experience the fun of it all.
Since I love the drive-in so much, and since it’s the Victoria Day long weekend here in Canada (and most of the existing drive-ins are now open for the season), we’ve gone on a mission at Criticize This! to track and map all the drive-ins we could find across the country. This was a big undertaking for us and we hope it’s a useful tool for our readers. Of course, if we did happen to miss a drive-in that you know of, please email us at tips@criticizethis.ca and we’ll add it to the map.
