Poster for ‘The Muppets’ released

If you go see Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides this weekend, you’ll most likely catch the trailer for The Muppets — the new movie starring Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of the felt-faced creations from the mind of Jim Henson. As someone who has never been a fan of these puppets, seeing Jason Segel take the reins with the story and lead acting role has me excited for what’s to come. Unfortunately, Disney is holding the trailer from the web until next week, but they did send over the first poster for the film for us to share. It’s a very simplistic design with the tagline “They’re closer than you think.” across the top. What’s interesting about it though is that we get a look at the gang from head to toe, making them more human-like.

Take a look at the poster below and let us know what you think — are you excited for The Muppets?

About The Muppets:

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theatre and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theatre, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, The Muppets hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011.
