Halifax to have a ‘Summer of Murray’

After we posted our outdoor summer movie guide for Toronto, we went looking for outdoor screenings in other parts of our vast country. One of the coolest we found is Halifax’s alFresco filmFesto, which is celebrating the films of Bill Murray every Friday night on the Halifax Waterfront Boardwalk from July 22 to August 26.

Presented by the Atlantic Film Festival, “Summer of Murray” kicks off with Ivan Reitman’s classic comedy Meatballs on Friday, July 22, and follows with Caddyshack (July 29), Ghostbusters (August 5), What About Bob? (August 12), Groundhog Day (August 19), and Rushmore (August 26).

Gates open at 8 p.m. with each screening beginning around 9 p.m. Screenings are free to the public, but a $5 cash donation is welcome. The festival encourages people to bring blankets and chairs for comfort.

Not a Bill Murray fan? The festival will also be screening How to Train Your Dragon on Wednesday, June 29 as part of the Sackville Patriot Days at Kinsmen Park, and Despicable Me on Sunday, July 3 at 9:30 p.m. as part of Bedford Days at DeWolf Park. Both are free to the public as well.
