Bruce McDonald film? Check! Guy Maddin film? Check! A film about hockey? Double check! Yup, it’s the lineup of Canadian features at the Toronto International Film Festival this year. And for fans of our maple syrup dripping cinema, some solid films have been selected by TIFF’s team of programmers. Unfortunately, none of them jump out as surprises, but that will surely change once we lay eyes on them.
Out of the 20 Canadian features picked, 12 are world premieres, including Michael Dowse’s Goon, Guy Maddin’s Keyhole, Ingrid Veninger’s i am a good person/ i am a bad person, Sarah Polley’s Take This Waltz (picture above), and Nathan Morland’s Edwin Boyd. Mary Harron’s vampire flick The Moth Diaries is having its North American premiere, and Bruce McDonald’s Hard Core Logo II is getting its Toronto premeire.
