This is a recap of the eighth episode of Pan Am, entitled Unscheduled Departure. Spoilers ahead if you have not seen it!

Drama on Pan Am reached a new level this week. On a flight to Caracas through Hurricane Ginny (not the person), one of the passengers, Henry, has a heart attack. This prompts an unscheduled landing in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti.

After landing, the crew is met by two men with machine guns. I don’t know about you, but if some men approached me with a couple of machine guns, I would not move calmly out of the plane to greet them. I would hide in the plane. But I guess the Pan Am crew is made of sterner stuff. Dean, Ted and Colette ask for a doctor and the men consent to use of their vehicle after they hand over a large wad of cash. So Ted and Colette jump into a jeep and take off to God knows where to obtain the service of a doctor.

Colette tries to convince a doctor to come back but even after a very emotional appeal, she only gets medicine, which is useless since when she returns to the plane poor Henry has already died. However, she picked up a new passenger, a girl whose whole family has been slaughtered by the dictatorship government.

Dean wants to leave her, but Colette stands her ground and tells him that if he leaves her, he will regret it later. Kate suggests leaving dead Henry in Haiti to compensate for the extra weight. The reason being is that part of the runway is destroyed so there isn’t enough room to take off. They need to shed as much weight as they can before lift off.

Of course, many of the passengers were irate about the situation. Having to leave their bags, taking on a new passenger, and having men with machine guns board the plane in search of food can be a little trying. But Laura calmly prepared food and Maggie gave the most vocal of the angry passengers, Mr, Oritz, a very awesome setdown as only she can and Kate took care of removing the body.

Meanwhile, Ted defended Dean’s flying skills to the temporary flight engineer, Chuck. Guess Ted got over Dean being promoted to Captain before him.

The best part about this episode is that there were no flashbacks! And the girls kicked ass this week! Kate wasn’t on a spy mission, Laura wasn’t being flaky and Maggie used her sarcastic wit to put someone in his place who deserves it. And Colette pretty much was the heroine of the episode, cause she’s awesome and speaks French and stuff. Plus she and Dean finally make out a little. I’m hoping that they don’t drop this like the Ginny storyline. Unless, she’s gonna return and cause Dean some trouble. Uh oh.

Pan Am airs on CTV Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET. Are you fan? Discuss in the comments below.
