This is a recap of the sixth episode of Pan Am, entitled The Genuine Article. Spoilers ahead if you have not seen it!
Well well. Ginny and Dean decided to carry on their affair after Monte Carlo. Guess Dean decided to take his new Captaincy for granted after all. I’m surprised Ted’s not resentful of this. Dean throwing away the job he wants to dally with a woman who is mistress to Vice President Henderson of Pan Am? Perhaps Ted’s just biding his time.
Meanwhile, Kate is being followed around by a photographer from Life magazine. They want to do a follow up piece on her capturing her life as a Pan Am stewardess.
Maggie’s big mouth having landed herself in a bit of trouble at work wants to try to boost her image by horning in on the pictures. But she missteps and lands both Kate and herself in a Rio police station after they buy stolen goods. Here’s where we learn Maggie’s past finally. Before becoming a stewardess, she was a waitress in a diner and living in a trailer home. She ran away, worked in the registrar’s office at Berkley and attended classes that other students dropped. Later on, she brazened her way through the interview at Pan Am and lied about speaking several languages fluently, including portuguese. The fact that Maggie lied about speaking fluent portuguese seemed to annoy Kate. Too bad her new bestie wasn’t as cool as she thought.
Meanwhile, Dean decides that he doesn’t want to carry on with Ginny, who doesn’t seem to mind. Wonder if Henderson is married? If so, he’s cheating on his wife with Ginny, who in turn is cheating on him with Dean. I feel like I need a chart to keep this shit straight. Ginny can’t seem to let it go and proceeds to be semi-stalkerish by knocking on Dean’s door as he tries to ignore her.
Meanwhile, Laura is seeing Niko, the Yugoslavian diplomat. The CIA wants to know his schedule and asks Laura to find out. She discovers he’s not all that thrilled with the Yugoslavian government. Laura reports this and CIA asks her to try to bring him in as a spy. Seriously? Does the CIA have no qualified and experienced personnel on their payroll? Even Laura herself doesn’t think she’s qualified for the job.
Meanwhile, Ginny stays behind on the plane after landing in New York City to talk to Dean. Maggie overhears this exchange as Ginny doesn’t bother to fully close the door. You would think if you were trying to have a super secret affair you would shut the door when you’re having a private conversation. Seems like Maggie used this information for Henderson’s help in preventing her from being fired from Pan Am. Not sure exactly what happened but I’m sure we’re going to find out what the fallout is next week.
I can’t wait. I hope there’s a girl fight coming up. We’re due, dontcha think?
