This is a recap of the sixth episode of Terra Nova, entitled Bylaw. Spoilers ahead if you have not seen it!

The scene opens with an unknown soldier getting mauled by a dinosaur. It’s another episode opener where an unknown character gets killed by a dinosaur. Remember the good scientist being eaten alive by a T-Rex in “What Remains”?

Jim, being the astute policeman that he is, advises Taylor that the soldier was murdered and someone lured a dinosaur into a building so it would attack the first person to open the door.  It seems like so much work to murder someone by dinosaur when there are so many other things in Terra Nova that could kill you. Just me?

There’s another attempt from Malcolm to resurrect some sort of love triangle by rescuing a cracked dinosaur egg and getting Liz involved in helping correct a birth defect. There isn’t even a hint of interest from Liz. So maybe I’m just wrong and Malcolm just wants to be friends now? I doubt it.

Jim finds out that the murdered soldier was having an affair with a married woman, Rebecca Milner. Her husband confesses to the murder and Taylor banishes him from Terra Nova per colony bylaw.  Liz brings up the fact that Mr. Milner deserves a fair trial regardless of his confession. Guess Liz isn’t a fan of Taylor’s dictatorship? I’m sure this is gonna be a theme in future episodes.

Jim, feeling guilty from his wife’s lecture, decides to track down Milner in the woods, who tells him he only confessed because he believed his wife was guilty. This is good enough for Jim to believe Milner, even though he’s lied to him before. Then there’s an elaborate plan to get the real killer to confess. Truthfully, I started to nod off at this point. But another soldier was guilty, they forced him to confess and Taylor kicked the crap outta him before forcing him into banishment.

The more interesting sideplot involves Josh trying to get his old girlfriend from future to Terra Nova. He makes a deal with Boylan, the shady owner of Terra Nova’s (seemingly) only bar. However, this involves a meet with Mira. Seems as if the deals only on if Josh promises to return any favour she asks without question. It’s an open ended favour, to be cashed in whenever Mira wants. Only an idiot would agree to this. Of course, Josh does. I smell trouble. Can I assume it means betrayal, treason,or possibly more murder? Too ambitious? Well whatever it is, I’m sure it involves more dinosaurs.

Terra Nova airs on Citytv Monday nights at 8 p.m. ET. Are you a fan of the show? Discuss in the comments below.
