TV Recap: ‘Pan Am’ Episode 12 – “New Frontiers”

This is a recap of the twelth episode of Pan Am, entitled New Frontiers. Spoilers ahead if you have not seen it!

Oh, look, Kate is practicing pickpocketing! And in public too. It’s for a new assignment. She needs to pickpocket a former agent turned courier who has some sensitive information CIA doesn’t want falling into the wrong hands. I guess all the other experienced agents were busy. Never fear! Kate’s here.

Maggie tries to warn Ted about her close encounter with Ashley and that there might be something she’s not telling him. However, Ted flatly refuses to believe Maggie so she backs off and tells him she’s joking. Only… who would joke about something like that?

Meanwhile, Laura’s shocked to discover that the daring nude photos taken of her by the Life magazine photographer have ended up in a gallery. I knew this would come back and bite her in the ass. I’m not sure why she is so shocked. What did she think was going to happen? She really should have taken the negatives. She offers to buy them back from the gallery, but doesn’t have $500 needed to beat out another buyer. Of course she goes running to Ted to borrow the money.

But Ted is busy picking out china patterns with Ashley. Laura seems taken aback and when he leaves the room to answer a phone call, Ashley decides to loan her the money, no questions asked. The catch? Laura’s friendship. Of course, this may mean something different to Ashley then it does to Laura. That was one long hug.

Poor Dean can’t get back into Collette’s good graces after literally screwing up. On the flight to Rome, a good looking stranger, Omar, flirts with Collette and she agrees to show him around the city. No baggage, nice suit, foreign accent? He’s a prince. Called it!

Once they land in Rome, Dean is accosted by customs officials who are looking for a smuggler. Out of jealousy as well as suspicion, he points to Omar. Of course, I’m right and Omar is a runaway prince. Poor Dean looks really dumb and Collette isn’t impressed.  Defeated, he agrees to respect Collette and her wish to just remain friends. Giving up already? You better be trying to impress her next episode Dean.

Meanwhile the real smuggler is Captain Boyles, who attempts to blackmail Maggie into joining him.  He claims it’s getting harder to smuggle and he needs someone “on the inside.” Of course, she turns him down. Go Maggie! You had me worried for a minute there!

And Laura’s photos turn out to be so impressive that Andy Warhol wants to meet her and be his model. But everything stops, when it’s announced that President Kennedy has been shot. How’s that for a downer?

Pan Am airs on CTV Sunday nights at 8/9 p.m. CT. Are you fan? Discuss in the comments below.
