Good music videos still exist! – Episode six

This installment of Good music videos still exist features some familiar artists for those of you who read Criticize This! Despite that, there’s something fresh in each of these videos to go with the great songs you might have already heard. These three videos could not be much more different, they all share one thing in common: they’re good.

First up are Liars, whose wild video for ‘Brats’ is par for the course from the band who can not be pegged down. The track, which is dark and danceable (like all of WIXIW) is accompanied here by off-kilter, broken computer animation of an Elmer Fudd v. Bugs Bunny battle on acid.

On the other end of the spectrum we find Mount Eerie and the video for ‘The Place Lives’ off of Clear Moon. The video is the first ever for Phil Elverum, and fits his style to a tee, nothing flashy, nothing electronic, just a man in the woods, making coffee and basically living. If you thought the “interview” with him which I brought you earlier was hesitant (and how could you not) you won’t be surprised by this reserved video.

Last up is Frankie Rose and the video for “Know Me”, off her stellar debut LP Interstellar which we gave a glowing review earlier this year. This video, produced Ricardo Rivera, walks the fine line between sci-fi and nostalgic, much like the album as a whole. Read more about the concept behind this video here.
